Uterine Fibroids- A Threat to the Day-to-Day Lives of Women

Uterine fibroids are usually a type of non-cancerous tumor that can grow in the uterus of a female leading to several complications. Not all fibroids cause evident symptoms but some of the complicated cases include heavy menstrual bleeding, back pain, frequent urination, and pain during the time of intercourse. Small fibroids often don’t need to be treated and dissolve on their own in the due course of time, but larger fibroids can be treated with the help of medications or surgery.

Types of Uterine Fibroids

There are different types of uterine fibroids depending on where they occur and how they get attached to the uterus. Some of the specific types of uterine fibroids include:-

• INTRAMURAL FIBROIDS:- Intramural fibroids are embedded into the muscular wall of the uterus of females and are the most common type of uterine fibroids.
• SUBMUCOSAL FIBROIDS:- Submucosal fibroids grow under the inner lining of the uterus and can cause bleeding and other complications.
• SUBSEROSAL FIBROIDS:- Subserosal fibroid grows under the lining of the outer surface of the female uterus and can become quite large and grow into the pelvis area causing complications later.
• PEDUNCULATED FIBROIDS:- Pedunculated fibroids are the common type of fibroids that get attach to the uterus with a stalk or stem. They are often described as mushroom-like in shape because they have a stalk and a wider top.

Treatment

Treatment for uterine fibroids can be different and can vary as per the size, number, and location of the fibroids along with the type of symptoms they cause to the patient. If the patient isn’t experiencing any light symptoms from the fibroids, they might not need treatment. Small fibroids can often dissolve on their own. Some patients never experience any symptoms nor have any problems associated with fibroids and in that case, ultrasounds can detect the cause of the minor complications. Surgeries are the best-suggested treatment for treating fibroids!
